Full-Time Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Coordinator

General Purpose of Position:

The advocate works as part of the coordinator team to provide victim center services daily. This work will be achieved by building and maintaining strong relationships with all colleagues, excellence in communication, and thriving innovative achievements and growth in all assigned special projects.

Full: Full-time 40hrs/week

Normal Working Hours: 40 hours 8:30-5 Monday-Friday and periodic on-call

Starting Wage: $38,480.00 per year plus added on-call stipends 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences preferred (Psychology, Social Work, Human Services) or equivalent life experiences. (Minimum of high school diploma or GED.)
  • Experience working with domestic violence clients preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault required
  • Experience in public speaking, providing educational programs preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with rural issues needed
  • Must be able to travel a five-county area. Must possess a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and pass a background check
  • Computer literacy is required (Word, Excel, Google Workspace, Website Maintenance, Creative / Graphic Design, Social Media Management, Hoot Suites, Facebook, Instagram, etc)
  • Written & verbal communication skills. Active listening skills. Social perceptiveness. Interpersonal skills
  • Be welcoming and accepting to clients and the public, by telephone and in-person
  • Respond to a high degree of activity, keeping composure and self-control
  • Demonstrate physical and emotional stamina to effectively handle job-related issues and stress
  • Possess awareness of cross-cultural diversity

Duties: This position consists of, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Will carry the 24/hour crisis line as assigned - must live in Yankton or within 5 minutes of Yankton for quick response time
  • Respond to crisis telephone calls, law enforcement calls, crisis counseling requests, and emergency medical needs
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the shelter to ensure a comfortable, clean living space for victims/survivors
  • Lead/assist the Coordinator Team with awareness campaigns by distributing awareness materials and making community contacts
  • Provide education and training on issues of abuse (including but not limited to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking) through outreach activities
  • Provides and participates in outreach to underserved populations
  • Providing direct client services, such as assisting with housing and/or job applications or assisting with the process of completing and filing a protection order
  • Becoming more familiar with the intake process by completing trauma assessments and other extended stay paperwork
  • Data entry
  • Other duties as assigned
