Yankton Thrive is encouraging the community to think local first this holiday season with Pink Friday, a nationwide movement that celebrates and supports small businesses. Held the Friday before Black Friday, Pink Friday is designed to spotlight local retailers and remind shoppers to invest in the businesses that make Yankton unique.
 
Pink Friday will take place on Friday, November 21, and participating businesses throughout Yankton will offer exclusive specials, discounts, and giveaways to kick off the holiday shopping season. The event aims to shift the focus from the big-box rush of Black Friday to the heart of the community - its local entrepreneurs.
 
“Pink Friday is all about showing love to the small businesses that create jobs, give back to local causes, and make Yankton such a special place to live,” said Lauren Heinrichs, Business Services Director at Yankton Thrive. “By shopping local first, every purchase helps strengthen our economy and support our neighbors.”
 
“Yankton is quickly becoming a destination for many out of town shoppers from all around the area, and we are so proud to be part of this,” said Carla Mueller, owner of 9th Street Clothing Co. “We’re excited to see small businesses showing steady growth and creating new opportunities for jobs and community support.
 
Pink Friday is a great way for the community to support small businesses before they shop the bigger stores. It’s exclusive to local businesses - so when the community shows up that day, we know they’re showing up for us, and that’s exciting! Giving them great deals is our way of saying thanks for supporting us, so it works both ways. It’s such a great event, and we’re thrilled that Yankton is taking part in Pink Friday for the third year!”
