The Yankton Community Library, 515 Walnut Street, will be hosting Weekend at the Oscars on Saturday & Sunday, March 9 & 10. The 10th annual event will feature four nominated movies in various categories.
The weekend will kick off with The Holdover, rated R, at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 9. Nominated for best picture, best actor (Paul Giamatti), and best supporting actress (Da'Vine Joy Randolph), The Holdovers shares the story of a cranky history teacher forced to remain on campus over the holidays.
Best picture, lead actor, and supporting actor nominated American Fiction rated R will start at 12:00 pm. Watch as a fed-up novelist uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of the hypocrisy he claims to disdain.
Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo star in best picture nominee Poor Things, rated R, at 2:15 pm. Nominated for best picture, lead actress, and supporting actor, Poor Things tells the tale of a young woman brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist.
Return on Sunday, March 10, for the remake of The Color Purple, rated PG-13, at 1:30 pm. Based on the Alice Walker book, The Color Purple, recounts the story of a woman who finds strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.
