About Paul Harens:
I have always had a camera, most of which were not good cameras They were the inexpensive ones (mine I won delivering newspapers). I kept saying to myself, “that would make a neat picture.” But, I rarely had a camera with me. When I retired in 2011, I decided to buy a camera and take photographs of things I wanted to take. I bought a fixed lens camera. Two months later, I bought a much better one. I am now on my sixth camera.
With each camera I learned more of the art of photography and I made choices with my form of photography. The first choice to stay with digital and color. The second choice is to do no more to my photos than what any person can do on the computer. I do not use photoshop, light room, and digital programs like those. It is a choice every photographer must make and I did.
I started with the Meridian Bridge, went to eagles (and thanks to Sharon Koller, other birds), old buildings/homes in the Yankton area. I have expanded my repertoire to include landscapes, flowers, and just about anything that catches my eye. Some are good and some are bad, but they are mine.
Everyone sees an image in a different sphere. Some look for color, some for form, or some in the abstract. I try and make my photography a slice of reality, my reality, because everyone has their own reality.
