Description
The Yankton Community Library, 515 Walnut Street, will be hosting a Babysitting Clinic for youth 12-18 years old based on the 4-H babysitting curriculum.
The objectives are to familiarize teens with the responsibilities of babysitting to help participants become capable, caring, trustworthy and responsible sitters. They will learn skills and techniques to develop the confidence to handle situations that could happen when they babysit, including basic first aid techniques, ideas for simple and healthy meals and snacks, and engaging and age appropriate activities they can share with the children they babysit. The clinic will help teens develop a positive attitude about the care of children and prepare teens in the business aspects of babysitting. Each participant will get a training guide for the course and will put together their own babysitting ‘goodie bag’ to take with them.
The class will be led by Yankton Community Library staff with assistance from community volunteers and will take place at the Yankton Community Library. The session will consist of two days: Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28 with each day lasting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must attend both days of the session and should bring a sack lunch the first day. Lunch will be provided on the second day of the clinic. A $25 class fee is due at the time of registration. Registration must be completed in person at the library by May 26. Spaces are limited.
