Kids activities at the Mead this June...
Description
This June the Mead Cultural Education Center is celebrating the 85th anniversary of the start of the Dakota Territorial Museum Collection. All children receive free admission for the entire month of June in celebration of the milestone. An activity will be provided each Saturday to children who visit. The activities include butter making on June 5, tambourines on June 12, rock art on June 16 and suncatchers on June 26.
The museum collection began in 1936 when the Daniel Newcomb Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution opened Yanktons very first museum in Riverside Park. In 1961 the Yankton County Historical Society was officially formed and took over care of the museum and its artifacts which now reside inside the Mead Building.
The Mead Cultural Education is located at 82 Mickelson Drive in Yankton. The museum's summer hours start on June 1: Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday - Sunday 12pm - 4pm. Please call 605-668-3898 with any questions.
